Torque Transducers
Commonly, torque sensors or torque transducers use strain gauges applied to a rotating shaft or axle. With this method, a means to power the strain gauge bridge is necessary, as well as means to receive the signal from the rotating shaft. This can be accomplished using slip rings, wireless telemetry or rotary transformers. These are designed for various applications like non-rotating parts torque measurement, process control equipment, robotics & effectors, laboratory & research and test & measurement.
Rugged but small contact-less torque sensors are available as well as many mounting configurations to provide excellent measurements in both industrial and laboratory environments. Various rotary torque sensors are available with features such as stainless-steel housings and mechanical stops for increased overload protection. Static torque sensors are designed to measure reaction torque using bonded foil strain gauges with excellent temperature stability.
